Seniors Affordable Apartments Eligibility & Application

You may be in core housing need if:

• Suitable accommodation costs more than 30% of the household’s total income on rent, and
• Your household annual income is below the income threshold for the municipality in which you are applying.
  • Maximum annual household income threshold (current): $54,000.00

What is considered functional independence?

Functional independence is defined as physically, mentally, and emotionally able to look after their own personal needs (with or without the assistance of community-based services) and includes: 

• Managing personal medications 
• Maintaining appropriate personal hygiene 
• Managing dietary needs 
• Ability to maintain their suite in a safe, clean and tidy condition
• Ability to live amicable with fellow residents 
• Willingness to follow rules outlined in a tenancy agreement

Applications are reviewed for eligibility and then prioritized based on:

• Rent-to-income ratio and utility responsibility
• Impacts to personal wellbeing
• Health or safety concerns
• Identification as a member of a target population 

Eligible applicants will be contacted for an interview. Heartland Housing Foundation follows the Social Housing Accommodation Regulation when determining placement on the waitlist. Wait times vary depending on number of applicants and individual priority scores. Your score may be updated later on if your circumstances or income changes.
